Picatinny rails for Carl Gustaf
The Carl Gustaf rifles belong to the Swedish hunting tradition, where solid actions, practical accuracy and long service life have been more important than rapid model changes. Many of the rifles are still in use, and a Picatinny rail is a simple way to make them more flexible with modern optics and mounts.
Carl Gustaf 2000, 3000 and 4000
Carl Gustaf 2000, 3000 and 4000 should be treated as different platforms. The 3000 model is available in different action lengths, and the 4000 model is often associated with a more robust system build. This means a rail should not be chosen on the basis of the Carl Gustaf name alone.
A Picatinny rail for a Carl Gustaf 3000 Short Action will not necessarily fit a Long Action, 2000 or 4000. Always check the exact model, action length and A/B/C measurements on your rifle before you order.
Material: steel or aluminium
For a Carl Gustaf hunting rifle, 7075-T6 aluminium is a good choice if you want to keep the rifle light and practical. Steel with QPQ treatment is relevant if the rifle is used a lot, if the optic is heavy, or if you want maximum wear resistance in the mounting. See our guide to steel vs aluminium for Picatinny rails.
Night optics and flexible setups
Picatinny makes it easier to use the same mounting standard across several rifles. This can be an advantage if a Carl Gustaf is to be used with clip-on, thermal optics or digital night optics. A regular riflescope should, as a rule, be checked and often re-zeroed after relocation, while many digital and thermal units can save profiles for multiple rifles.
Mounting
Place the rail so the holes line up precisely with the action's threaded holes. Clean the contact surfaces and threads, use a small amount of suitable threadlocker, and tighten the screws according to the manufacturer's recommendation. See our guide to mounting a Picatinny rail.
